Tips for Making a Custom Watercolor Palette

Making a custom watercolor palette will make painting so convenient. You can add all of your favorite colors or build a mixing palette.

Start by swatching the colors that you want to use. Eliminate the colors that you don't like or that are redundant.

Label your pans with a permanent marker. This allows you to see what color it is and will make it easy to refill the pans as needed.

Fill each pan about half full.

Use something pointy to spread the paint into the corners.

Make sure to swatch your colors as you go. Dried watercolor pans can look very different!

Keep going until you fill the entire set.

Let the paint dry for a few days. If desired, you can add another layer of paint to fill the pan more.
