Tips for Mixing Orange Watercolor

Mixing your own watercolor colors is an important skill to have. 

But did you know that there are warm reds, cool red, warm yellows, and cool yellows?

Red + yellow = orange, right?

Mixing warm reds and warm yellows result in warmer orange colors. 

Mixing cool reds and cool yellows result in muddier orange colors. 

Colors have different mixing strengths

It's also important to understand that red is more powerful than yellow, so you will need more yellow paint when mixing orange.

Experiment to Find the Perfect Orange

Play with adding different amounts of red and yellow to create orange colors. 

Dilute the colors to make pastel versions

Mixing a bit of blue into the orange mixture can tone it down a bit.
